Just Back From Australia

Hi everybody! I just have to tell you what a terrific time I had visiting Australia. From the moment we stepped off the plane until we headed home two weeks later we were treated like royalty. Although not a single person wished me “G’day!” (Which I imagine, is as trite these days as “Howdy” in the US), I was made to feel so very welcome. Thank you. Sydney is truly a great city and the people are so genuine and friendly. Kind of a big city look with a home town feel “at home”. I’m so glad you will be hosting the Olympics in 2000. (Now I have an excuse to come back!)

I did a little bit of traveling while there and, although it was pointed out to me that we don’t say “Melbawn” or “Brizbain,” I was made to feel welcome in those cities too. When Stephen and I worked together in Days of our Lives we did many public appearances and often traveled together. Even though were still very good friends, we haven’t been able to spend time together like we did on this trip. People always talked about a “chemistry” between Patch and Kayla and I must say it stems from our good feelings for one another.

And it was like a trip down memory lane. I haven’t been Kayla for more than a year and Stephen hasn’t been Patch for more than three years. But the response we got in Australia was as if we’d never been away. We met some great fans at our two mall appearances and had a real blast on Midday, Live It Up, and Tonight Live.

I was surprised to learn just how popular the soaps are Down Under. It’s amazing, even though you’re several years behind; you all know the current storylines. By now on DOOL, I imagine Patch has died. I was very sad to see him leave — which left Kayla in the lurch.

The powers-that-be had Kayla doing some very unlikely things, which I protested. I suggested a way to handle Stephen’s death scene but they made me swear not to do it. We’ll, I did it anyway. I climbed onto the bed and held him in my arms. They wanted me to remove the wedding ring but that was so out of character and I fought it — but to no avail.

Although Kayla’s new storyline was controversial, a good thing to come out of it was getting to know Charles Shaughnessy. Now I have two wonderful lifetime friends with whom to remember those days of our lives!
